Trump Denies Trans Siberian Orchestra Visas After Discovering Word “Trans” in Band Name

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump late Thursday night condemned the Trans Siberian Orchestra in a furious Truth Social post, accusing the symphonic rock group of “pushing TRANS ideology through VERY LOUD CHRISTMAS MUSIC,” before ordering the State Department to deny the band entry visas into the United States.

The controversy began shortly after midnight, when Trump appeared to discover the word “Trans” in the band’s name. He had been browsing concert listings for approximately four hours.

“I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE SO CALLED TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, A VERY WOKE GROUP USING CHRISTMAS, OF ALL THINGS, TO PUSH RADICAL GENDER IDEOLOGY INTO OUR BEAUTIFUL CONCERT HALLS,” Trump wrote. “NOT HAPPENING! WE ARE BRINGING BACK REAL MUSIC, REAL CHRISTMAS, AND REAL SIBERIA, WHATEVER THAT IS!”

By morning, administration officials confirmed that visa processing for the group had been “paused indefinitely pending ideological review.”

At a White House briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the move, insisting the president was “protecting American families from linguistic confusion.”

“The president has been very clear,” Leavitt said. “Any foreign organization attempting to enter this country with the word ’trans’ in its name should expect scrutiny. Whether it is Trans Siberian Orchestra, trans fats, transmission fluid, or transatlantic flights, this administration is going to ask the tough questions previous administrations were too afraid to ask.”

When a reporter pointed out that the band was founded in the United States and is best known for Christmas-themed arena rock, Leavitt replied, “That is exactly what makes it so insidious.”

The Department of Homeland Security separately confirmed that the band’s “Siberian affiliation” was also under active review. A department spokesperson, reached for comment, said the agency was “not in a position to rule anything out at this time.” Asked to clarify what specifically was being ruled in, the spokesperson said the inquiry was “ongoing.”

Industry observers struggled to place the threat. “The Trans Siberian Orchestra has spent decades combining hard rock, pyrotechnics, and holiday nostalgia into a spectacle beloved by suburban dads,” said one analyst. “Calling them radical gender ideologues is like accusing Mannheim Steamroller of running an anarchist cell.”

In a follow-up post Thursday evening, Trump claimed he had “always been suspicious of orchestras” because “nobody knows what the conductor is really doing with that little stick.” White House officials did not respond to questions about whether the president’s concerns extended to domestic ensembles.

Asked whether the administration would reconsider, Leavitt said only, “The president loves Christmas more than anyone. That is why he is willing to defend it from bands whose names contain syllables he does not like.”

The Trans Siberian Orchestra’s 2026 winter tour is scheduled to open in Newark in late November. Ticket sales, as of press time, had increased seventeen percent.
